Itinerary
DAY 1: HANOI – MU CANG CHAI
- 05:50 – 06:00: Pick-up at Hanoi Opera House to begin the journey to capture the iconic terraced rice fields of Mu Cang Chai.
- 06:20: Additional pick-up at Gate 1 – National Convention Center (Thang Long Boulevard).
- Stop for a short break and breakfast (at your own expense) after the expressway.
- On the way, enjoy scenic views and stop for photos at lush green tea hills in Thanh Son (Phu Tho).
- 11:00: Arrive in Nghia Lo town for lunch.
- After lunch, continue to Tu Le. En route, admire the vast Muong Lo valley stretching along both sides of the road.
- Photo stop at the Mu Cang Chai district welcome sign located at the base of Khau Pha Pass.
- 14:00: Start the drive up Khau Pha Pass, one of the “Four Great Passes” of Northern Vietnam.
- 15:00: Stop at the top of Khau Pha Pass (~2,100m altitude). In the local language, “Khau Pha” means “Sky Horn” – the place where heaven meets earth. Enjoy panoramic views over Khau Pha Valley and villages like Lim Thai and Lim Mong.
- In September, watch professional paragliders soar above the golden rice fields in the famous “Flying Over the Golden Season” festival.
- 16:30: Arrive at the transfer point to Mam Xoi Hill – the most iconic rice terrace of Mu Cang Chai.
- Follow the guide’s instructions and hire a motorbike taxi (self-paid, negotiable price) for a short ride to the viewpoint.
- 18:00: Arrive at Mu Cang Chai town. Check in to your hotel or homestay (based on your booking option).
- 19:00: Dinner at the accommodation. Evening at your leisure. Overnight in Mu Cang Chai.
DAY 2: MU CANG CHAI – TU LE – HANOI
- 06:30: Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Free time to rent a motorbike or ride behind a local driver (xe ôm) to explore some recommended spots (depending on available time – consult with the guide for advice):
- Mu Cang Chai Market – a local trading hub with many ethnic specialties
- Thai ethnic villages – take photos of traditional water wheels used for irrigation
- Bamboo forest – a place reminiscent of martial arts movie scenes
- Horseshoe-shaped terraced fields – a stunning natural formation
- 09:00: Say goodbye to Mu Cang Chai town. Continue the drive toward Cau Ba Nha, where you can stop for photos at the “shoe-shaped” terraced fields.
- 11:00: Arrive in Tu Le – known for its fragrant sticky rice and beautiful Thai women who have captured the hearts of many.
- Visit the local market to buy Tu Le green rice (cốm) and local products.
- Take photos with the Mu Cang Chai welcome symbol.
- 12:00: Lunch in Nghia Lo. After lunch, board the bus for the return journey to Hanoi.
- If there are passengers heading to Noi Bai Airport, the bus will take the route via Ba Khe Junction – Lao Cai Expressway – Noi Bai – Hanoi.
- 17:30: Arrive at Noi Bai Airport.
18:30 – 19:00: Return to Hanoi Opera House. End of tour. See you again on future journeys!
